stain and grain

ash
-
distinct, strong contrast grain pattern
-
durable and incredibly dense
-
one of the most economical hardwoods

maple
-
smooth grain / light, creamy color
-
incredibly strong
-
economical, priced slightly above ash
-
best for furniture where limited grain is desired. I do not recommend darker stains on maple as it can get splotchy.
white oak
-
soft-looking / luxe grain
-
durable and incredibly dense
-
premium-priced timber
-
easily takes on stain - the graining is less active, the color is a light brown with a slight olive cast (in its natural state)
